Studies on an Uncomplicated Coryza of the Domestic Fowl I I . Tre Relation 0]~ the "bacillary" Coryza to That Produced by Exudate

چکیده
The isolation of a Gram-negative bacillus from the nasal exudate of fowl experimentally infected with an uncomplicated coryza is reported in the preceding paper. ~ The introduction of this organism into the palatine cleft of normal fowl was regularly followed by an inflammation of the upper air passages with a discharge from the nares. I t was of importance to determine whether any infectious agent other than the specific bacillus is etiologically associated with the disease. The observation that the coryza produced by injection of the bacillus regularly ran a shorter course than that produced by exudate had suggested that a second agent might be involved'. The results of protection tests carried out to test this possibility are here reported.

A Gram-negative bacillus corresponding to the hemophilic bacterium originally described by De Blieck was regularly isolated from birds infeetedwith type I coryza (2, 3). There is reason tobelieve that this bacillus, now known as Henwphil~ ga~linarum, was the only etiologic factor involved. The relation of H. ga~li~zrum to the type III coryza with which it was also associated was less clearly de...
متن کاملStudies on an Uncomplicated Coryza of the Domestic Fowl
Minute coccobacilliform bodies have regularly been found in the nasal exudate of fowl infected both by injection and by contact with the coryza of slow onset. These bodies are commonly less than 0.5micro in diameter and are predominantly extracellular. They have consistently failed to grow in artificial media. They are held back by Berkefeld V filters which are impermeable to Hemophilus gallina...
متن کاملGrowth of the Fowl Coryza Bodies in Tissue Culture and in Blood Agar
Evidence is presented that the growth capacity of chick embryo tissue for the fowl coryza bodies is conditioned by a diffusible cellular component which is essential for their multiplication. This growth factor is inactivated at pH 6, but withstands a temperature of 100 degrees C. for 60 minutes. An amount sufficient to promote a normal growth of the specific bodies may be present in tissue cul...

Avibacterium paragallinarum is Gram-negative bacteria that cause infectious coryza (IC), an acute respiratory disease of chickens. Despite vaccination of Layer and breeder farms of Iran against IC, they are still experiencing the disease clinically and there is no knowledge of serotypes prevalence of this bacterium in this country. This study designed to determine serovar identity by molecular ...
